Tectum: Safer Roofs Start in VR

Tectum Group, one of Belgium’s top roofing companies, partnered with AlterEyes to enhance its safety training with immersive technology. The result: a VR experience that teaches and tests key safety procedures, from using personal protective equipment to accessing a roof safely, in a way that’s engaging, hands-on, and promotes long-term knowledge retention.

Enhancing, not replacing, traditional learning

Rather than replacing traditional learning, the VR experience complements classroom-based instruction. After theoretical presentations, trainees step into a fully interactive 3D scenario where they apply their knowledge. This experiential layer helps boost engagement, retention, and overall training impact.

Train dangerous scenarios, safely

VR is especially powerful for simulating hazardous environments, like construction sites or rooftops. It allows workers to get familiar with critical safety procedures and potential dangers, without the real-world risk.

Scalable hardware, ready to go

Built with scalability in mind, the app runs on affordable standalone headsets, which are wireless, user-friendly, and easy to transport and set-up.

Smart reporting for continuous improvement

Each session generates a report with the user’s name, location, completion time, and a breakdown of correct and incorrect answers, providing not only a clear paper trail of completed training sessions, but also giving HR valuable insights to evaluate progress over time, identify knowledge gaps, and adjust training accordingly. The data is easily integratable with existing Learning Resource Management (LRM) systems, ensuring seamless incorporation into broader training workflows.

From training tool to talent magnet

Tectum also uses the app during job fairs, offering both future roofers and engineers an immersive first-hand experience of the job. This turns the training tool into a powerful asset for recruitment and employer branding alike.

Multilingual and modular

Thanks to its modular structure and localization options, the app can be adapted for any language or location, crucial in an industry that attracts workers from diverse international backgrounds.

As construction and roofing companies face ever-evolving safety standards, VR training offers a flexible, scalable solution that continuously adapts to the needs of both workers and employers, helping create a safer, more efficient workforce while also attracting top talent.
